One of the ideas that came up in conversations is the fact that geodata processing involves some steps that are not specific to geodata - things like sorting, removing duplicates, joining datasets, etc. Accessing the toolbox via an MCP server would remove the need for creating those tools specifically in the toolbox, but I wonder if these specific steps would need to be coded additionally when using SDK.
I have 2 ideas:
- The Geocode a table tool should have the option of processing more structured datasets with Street Address, City, State/Territory/Province, Zip Code/Postal Code, Country - and the option to just specify one country for all addresses. Most people, when they create address datasets, operate within one country - they don’t have a column for the country in the address (it’s just implied) and I don’t know if everyone knows the ISO abbreviation for their country.
- For the biodiversity tools you mentioned in the previous newsletter, one tool allows to specify a country, but the other one works only with a bounding box. As a result, creating 2 datasets for the same country is not easy. Then, I can convert them into spreadsheets using one of your tools. After that, if I want to have one dataset, I would have to join them manually, remove duplicates manually, then remove extra observations manually because of the bounding box manually - and only then I would use one of your tools to turn that one dataset into a map again. Just like Dmitriy said, the workflow involves manual processing or additional programming - and the concept of the toolbox is, as I understand it, to be a no-code option for data processing.
